Abstract: Crohn’s disease (CD) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that affects the gastrointestinal tract, causing symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and weight loss. While pharmacological treatments, including corticosteroids and biologics, have traditionally been used to manage CD, specialized enteral nutrition (EN) therapies are gaining attention as a non-pharmacological approach for inducing and maintaining remission. This review provides an overview of the use of exclusive enteral nutrition (EEN) and partial enteral nutrition (PEN) in Crohn\'s disease management. EEN, which replaces all food intake with a liquid formula, is particularly effective in pediatric populations, with remission rates comparable to corticosteroids but without the associated side effects. PEN, which allows for a combination of regular diet and enteral formula, has shown promise in maintaining remission, especially when used alongside pharmacological therapies. The potential mechanisms of EN include reducing gastrointestinal antigen exposure, altering gut microbiota, and promoting mucosal healing. Despite its benefits, adherence to EEN can be challenging due to its restrictive nature and formula palatability. Future research should focus on optimizing enteral formulas and exploring personalized nutrition approaches tailored to individual disease phenotypes and microbiomes. Specialized enteral nutrition represents a valuable tool in the holistic management of Crohn’s disease, offering an effective alternative to traditional therapies.
