Abstract: In the modern era, the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disorders, diabetes, obesity, cancer, and neurodegenerative conditions has become a global health challenge. Lifestyle factors, environmental pollution, dietary habits, and stress have significantly contributed to the onset and progression of these non-communicable diseases. This has compelled researchers, healthcare professionals, and nutritionists to explore alternative, natural, and preventive healthcare approaches. Nutraceuticals, a term blending "nutrition" and "pharmaceuticals," refer to food-derived products that provide medical or health benefits, including the prevention and treatment of diseases. They include various bioactive compounds such as vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, phytochemicals, probiotics, and herbal extracts. Nutraceuticals offer therapeutic potential beyond basic nutrition, targeting specific health issues like hypertension, hyperlipidemia, arthritis, and immune dysfunction Functional foods, on the other hand, are natural or processed foods that have been scientifically proven to confer health benefits beyond their basic nutritional value. They may help in improving overall well-being, enhancing physiological functions, and lowering the risk of chronic diseases. Examples include fortified dairy products, omega-3 enriched eggs, probiotics-rich yogurt, antioxidant-packed berries, and polyphenol-rich green tea. Several epidemiological studies and clinical trials have supported the role of these functional products in preventing chronic illnesses. The bioactive components found in these foods regulate oxidative stress, modulate inflammation, improve lipid profiles, and enhance immune responses. This study aims to comprehensively explore the various categories of nutraceuticals and functional foods, including fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices, fermented foods, beverages, and meats, highlighting their bioactive components, health benefits, and mechanisms of action in preventing chronic diseases.
